Old Town Oil 10/11/2010
They have many different kind of olive oils and balsamic vinegars for you to try individually or mix them up to get your favorite dressing! The staff is very informative, yet give you enough space to try your mixes, I just don't see the olive oil and balsamic vinegars the same as I used to anymore.
The Spice House 10/11/2010
At The Spice House, the spices are definitely fresher than other store bought manufactured seasoning. Most are probably as fresh as 6 weeks old. And the price are not much pricier if not the same. You can sample all the spices as you wish. It was a fun experience and educational!.
Belly Shack 12/26/2009
Belly Shack, a sister restaurant of Urban Belly, located right under the Western Blue line L stop. They offered sandwich focused menu with an Asian and Latin twist. The restaurant itself has an industrial skateboard-like ambiance with communal sitting, and self service beverage station. The place is small but cozy. The food will deliver to your table after you order it at the counter. We ordered Tostones with Chimichurri sauce as our starter. It was perfectly crisp, hot with a drizzle of some lime juice, salt and cilantro. Asian meatball sandwich with rice noodles and mint. The meatball was perfectly assemble with ginger, mint and lemongrass sitting nicely inside the baked pita bread with the noodles and beansprout. I simply can't stop eating it. The kimchi at Belly Shack is great! One of the tasty kimchi i've tried. But I personally think its a bit pricey. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll make sure I come back to try more.
Las Palmas 10/29/2009
Las Palmas is located on North Ave., it's easy to miss somehow, but I considered it as a hidden treasure. This place is very cozy, it's a nice date spot, but it could get loud when big group presents. Interesting artworks from 70s pops to loud modern vibrant artworks hanging on the wall. Extensive tequila menu ensure you will have a good time! Fresh made Guacamole with just the right amount of the ingredients just makes you want more, but don't fill up. Because their dinner from their enchiladas to Tilapia will give you a new perspective of Mexican cuisine.
Feast 10/29/2009
Living in Wicker Park for several years, I always get stucked in a long waiting line for brunch during the weekend. I finally gave Feast a try hoping the line won't be as long. "Boy, why did it take me so long to come here?" I wondered. Their waiting time was rather short, and their brunch are excellent. Their breakfast croissant is fantastic! fresh lightly toasted fluffy croissant with scrambled eggs, prosciutto, roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and arugula. matching with fried potatoes (they called it "feast"). Their mimosa completed me. From now on, Feast will be my regular joint!
